The Process

A clear website design process from first idea to launch

If you've never had a website built before, the not-knowing is the worst part. Here's exactly what happens, in order, and what's expected of you at each point.

  • Free homepage concept first
  • Fixed prices from £800
  • Most sites live in 1–2 weeks

Three stages, eight simple steps

Every project runs through the same three stages. Inside each one there are a few smaller steps, so you always know where things are up to.

  1. 1
    Stage one

    Free homepage concept

    Initial website review or conversation

We start with a short call or a few messages — or you send your current site through the free Website Score. Either way, I want to understand what's working, what isn't, and what you'd like the website to do for the business.

    Business, audience and goals

Who your customers are, the work you want more of, the jobs you'd rather not take, and the areas you cover. This shapes the wording far more than any design choice does.

    Homepage direction

I design a free homepage concept so you can see how your site could look before committing to anything. If it isn't right, you've lost nothing.

  2. 2
    Stage two

    Build and refine

    Page and content plan

We agree the pages your package covers and what each one needs to say. I'll tell you honestly if a page isn't earning its place.

    Full website build

I build the site around clarity, trust and enquiries — quick to load, easy to use on a phone, and organised so a visitor can find what they need without thinking about it.

    Review and revisions

You get the site to look through and send feedback in whatever form suits you — a list, a voice note, marked-up screenshots. Two rounds of revisions are included so there's genuine room to get it right.

  3. 3
    Stage three

    Launch and support

    Testing and launch

Before anything goes live I check the site on real phones and tablets, submit every form myself, click every link, and make sure images are compressed and pages load quickly.

    Going live

The site launches on fast UK hosting with the technical setup handled for you — domain pointing, security certificate, sitemap and search engine basics all in place.

    Post-launch support

I'm on hand around launch to sort anything that crops up. If you'd rather not manage hosting, updates and monitoring yourself, care plans start at £49/month and are month-to-month.

What I need from you

Not much, and none of it is difficult. The more real material you can send — particularly photographs of your own work — the better the finished site looks.

  • A short questionnaire about your services, areas and customers
  • Photographs of your work, team, vehicles or premises
  • Your logo if you have one — I can tidy it up if it needs it
  • Contact details, opening hours and how you prefer to be reached
  • Any reviews, insurance, qualifications or memberships you'd like shown
  • Access details for an existing domain, if you already have one

Photographs and business information

Your own photographs beat stock imagery every time. Finished jobs, before-and-after pairs, your van, your team, your premises — taken on a phone in decent daylight is perfectly good. I handle the cropping, compression and layout.

Alongside that, anything that proves you're established helps: genuine reviews, how long you've been trading, insurance, qualifications or trade memberships. I'll display whatever you supply, exactly as it is — nothing is invented or implied on your behalf.

How feedback and revisions work

When the build is ready you get a link to look through at your own pace. Send feedback however suits you — a numbered list, screenshots with notes, or a ten-minute call while we both have it open. Two rounds of revisions are included with your package, which is comfortably enough for most projects to land where you want it.

Testing before anything goes live

Every page is checked on real phones and tablets as well as desktop, because most of your visitors will arrive on a phone. I submit each form myself to confirm the message lands in your inbox rather than a spam folder, click through every link and button, and check that images are compressed so pages load quickly on mobile data.

Domains, hosting and what gets set up

If you already own a domain, we point it at the new site. If you don't, I'll advise on registering one in your own name so it stays yours. The site launches on fast UK hosting with a security certificate in place. Care plans from £49/month cover hosting, monitoring, backups and small updates if you'd rather not manage that side yourself — it's month-to-month and entirely optional.

The SEO foundations included

Every build includes the basics done properly: page titles and meta descriptions, clean URLs, structured data, a sitemap, sensible heading structure, fast-loading pages and an areas covered section where it's relevant. That's a solid foundation rather than a ranking promise — anyone guaranteeing positions in Google is guessing. If you want to push harder locally, Google Business Profile setup and local SEO work are available as an add-on.

What happens after launch

You own the website outright. I'm around after go-live to sort anything that crops up, and most clients choose to stay on a care plan so hosting, security and small changes are handled without them thinking about it. There's no contract tying you in, and no situation where leaving means losing the site you paid for.

Who does what

Being clear about this up front is why projects stay on schedule.

What I handle

  • Design, build and all the technical setup
  • Structuring your content so it reads clearly
  • Mobile, tablet and desktop testing
  • Checking every form, link and button before launch
  • On-page SEO foundations — titles, descriptions, sitemap, structured data
  • Hosting setup and launch day

What I need from you

  • The completed questionnaire and any photographs
  • Feedback within a reasonable window so the project keeps moving
  • Confirmation that prices, services and claims are accurate
  • Access to your domain if one already exists
  • A decision on whether you'd like a care plan after launch
