Website design for accountants and bookkeepers
Accountant website design that explains your services in plain English, shows who you help and makes it simple for a business owner to book a first conversation.
Why accountancy websites need clarity and trust
Choosing an accountant is a decision people take seriously, and most of it happens quietly on your website before anyone gets in touch. A business owner wants to know whether you look after firms like theirs, what you actually handle each month, who they'd be speaking to, and roughly what happens next. A lot of accountancy websites answer none of that — they open with a stock photo of a calculator and a paragraph of generic wording that would fit any practice in the country. The result is a visitor who can't tell you apart from the firm they looked at five minutes earlier, so they carry on looking.
What prospective clients want to see
Before someone picks up the phone or fills in a form, they're working through a short list of questions. A good accountancy website answers all of it clearly, without jargon and without making anyone dig.
- Which services you offer, described in everyday language
- The types of business or individual you look after
- Who they'll actually be working with day to day
- Which accounting software and systems you support
- Whether an initial consultation is available and how to arrange one
- The qualifications and memberships your practice holds
- A short, simple way to make an enquiry

Services for limited companies
Company directors usually arrive with a specific worry: annual accounts, corporation tax deadlines, Companies House filings, or simply not knowing whether their current arrangement is working. A page that sets out what you handle for limited companies — what's included, how often you're in touch, and what you need from them — settles most of that before the first call. It also lets you be clear about the size and type of company you're best suited to, which saves everyone time.
Services for sole traders
Sole traders and small partnerships want plain answers: what you'll do, what it costs to work with you, and how much of their year it takes up. Keeping this on its own page means the wording can be far less formal than the company pages, and you can cover the things people actually ask about — Self Assessment deadlines, allowable expenses, keeping records tidy, and moving from spreadsheets to something more manageable.
Bookkeeping and payroll
Bookkeeping and payroll are often the first services a business buys, and frequently the reason someone lands on your site in the first place. Give them room to breathe: how often you reconcile, whether you work monthly or quarterly, what you need from the client, how payslips and submissions are handled, and how pension duties fit in. Practical detail here converts far better than a single line in a services list.
Tax returns and tax planning
Describe the returns you prepare and the planning conversations you have with clients, in general terms and without giving tax advice on the page itself. Visitors mainly want reassurance that deadlines will be met, that someone is watching the dates, and that they can ask a question without being charged for every email. Saying that clearly does more for enquiries than a page full of technical terminology.
Management accounts and business advice
If you produce management accounts, cash-flow forecasts or sit down with clients to talk through numbers, that deserves its own space. It's often what separates a practice from the cheapest option online. Explain what a client receives, how often, and what sort of conversations follow. A short example of the kind of question you help answer — 'can I afford to take someone on?' — makes it far more tangible than the phrase 'business advisory'.
Cloud accounting and the software you support
Plenty of people search by software name before they search for an accountant. If you work with particular cloud accounting packages, list them clearly and say how you use them — who does what, how records are shared, and what happens if a client is moving from paper or spreadsheets. Software logos and partner badges are only shown when you confirm you're entitled to use them; nothing is added on your behalf.
Team and adviser profiles
People want to know who they'll be speaking to. A short profile for each adviser — a photograph, what they look after, and a sentence or two of background — makes a small practice feel considerably more approachable than a nameless 'our team' paragraph. If you're a sole practitioner, that's a strength worth showing rather than hiding behind corporate wording.
Qualifications and professional memberships
Qualifications, practising certificates and professional body memberships are displayed exactly as you supply them and nothing is implied beyond that. I won't add a membership badge you haven't confirmed, and I won't imply regulated status you don't hold. If you'd rather lead on experience, sector knowledge or client feedback instead, the design works just as well that way.
Consultation forms that respect people's time
A first-conversation form should be short. Name, business type, the service they're interested in, and a free-text box is usually plenty. Anything more and you lose people mid-way through — especially on a phone. If you offer a fixed-length introductory call, say so on the button: 'Book a free 20-minute call' gets more clicks than 'Submit'.
